Disley & Newtown wins Best Kept Village Award

Best Kept Village 2019 plaqueDisley Parish Council is delighted to announce that Disley & Newtown has been awarded the prestigious Championship Award in the Cheshire Best Kept Village Competition 2019.  This is a huge scoop for the village and is fantastic recognition for all the hard work that been put into the village’s appearance over the past 12 months.

As well as the main prize, the village also took home a Little Gem Award for the Memorial Park on the A6 and won the individual prize in the Best Kept Village (Population 2,501 -5,000) category.

These awards represent a superb community effort and thanks go to PRIDE, the Friends of Disley Station, Disley Parish Council officers, Disley WI, St. Mary’s Church and the many individual residents who have contributed and helped to improve the environment around the village.

Arnold Rhodes Playing Fields – Project Update

The first phase of work to improve the Arnold Rhodes Playing Fields has now been completed, with a new tarmac path around the football pitch, resurfacing of the paths and courts and a new scooter track installed.

The new adult gym equipment has been installed in one of the former tennis courts and this is now ready for use.

A tree surgeon has cleared the foliage around the back of the tennis courts but further tree work will be undertaken when the ground is suitable to take the large equipment necessary without damaging the surfacing.

Three new pieces of toddler play equipment have been installed and work is on-going to fit the safety surfacing around the new equipment.  The project manager is awaiting more quotes for the BMX track.

Further new play equipment has now been fitted in the original play area and the tennis court has been re-lined.

New seating and picnic benches have been installed around the park and trees planted for the orchard avenue.

The Parish Council will keep residents informed of progress on this exiting village project and the Council will hope to hold a family launch day upon completion.
