Overview

In March 2022, Disley Parish Council was delighted to launch the Disley Volunteer Network or DVN.

The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the superb community spirit in Disley and Newtown and the Parish Council hopes that the DVN will encourage even more community involvement.

The Council has established a database of volunteers which it emails with volunteering opportunities, training and general information. The Parish Council only emails information genuinely relating to local volunteering and never passes details on to third parties.

The DVN is also included in the Disley Village Resilience Plan, so that the group can be contacted in the event of a major local incident.

If you would like to join the DVN (with no obligation) please email your details to: admin@disleyparishcouncil.org.uk

07/12/2022 – Relauch of Disley Friends – Social Group – Volunteers required

Disley Friends was relaunched in January 2023, and is always looking for volunteers who are prepared to make teas and coffees, have a chat with the visitors or even provide a bit of entertainment.  The group is aimed at a wide cross-section of the Disley & Newtown community including carers, the cared-for and is a dementia-friendly gathering.

25/07/2022 – Disley and Newtown Good Neighbours – Drivers required

Good Neighbours are looking for volunteers to provide transport for people to medical and similar appointments who struggle to get there on their own. We’ve been doing this for over 30 years, and currently respond to about 260 transport request per year. Our co-ordinator matches transport requests with volunteers; even if you could only do a local trip about once a month this would be a great help, as we sometimes end up with several requests on the same day.

Volunteers use their own car and we reimburse costs according to the maximum rate recognised by HMRC as covering expenses. This is currently 45p/ mile, though we anticipate this could increase soon. If you’re interested, please get in touch with Rita Palmer on: 07761 150420 or email: ritapal@hotmail.co.uk

19/04/2022 – Friends of Disley Station (FODS) – Volunteers required

FODS undertake light gardening and tidying around Disley Railway Station.  The dedicated band of volunteers has made fantastic progress over recent years turning Disley Station from an embarrassing eye-sore into somewhere the village can be proud of. Volunteers can do as much or as little as they like.  For more information contact the Secretary, Jean Windsor on 07766 164452 or at jeanwinds25@gmail.com
