Following the large number of responses received from Disley and Newtown residents and organisations, Cheshire East Council has reviewed its’ proposal to close Disley Library. The revised proposal was included in the 2018/21 budget and was approved by Cheshire East Council on 22nd February 2018. Under the approved proposal, the library will remain open and Alderley Edge and Disley libraries will have to achieve some budget savings from revised opening hours and staffing. Cheshire East Council have commented that usage of all its’ libraries will continue to be monitored and that closure may be reconsidered if usage declines significantly.
Parish Councillors attended recent Cheshire East Cabinet and Council meetings and highlighted Disley Parish Council’s committed to working with Library managers and staff to increase library footfall and develop joint initiatives to increase usage and awareness.
As soon the Parish Council has received further details, it will update the website.
