FAO Residents of Hollinwood Road and vicinity

Residents of Hollinwood Road and roads off Hollinwood Road may have received a letter from Cheshire East Highways recently, proposing an experimental road closure on Hollinwood Road.  This letter was sent out in error by Cheshire East and Disley Parish Council did not support it being sent.  The Parish Council had been informed by Cheshire East that it would not be distributed.  The Parish Council has been trying to arrange a meeting between Cheshire East Highways, the Parish Council and affected residents to discuss various highways options in this area for some time.

After discussions with Cheshire East, it has been decided to use the letter as means of measuring residents’ views on the proposed road closure, the location of the closure and any other suggestions that residents may have.  In order to gather this information centrally, we have been asked that residents send their feedback directly to Sean Halewood at Cheshire East at:

or by post to:

Cheshire East Highways, Design – Road Safety, 6th Floor, Delamere House, Delamere Street, Crewe, Cheshire. CW1 2LL.

Please reference S106-016/101 in your correspondence.

A date of 20th February 2018 is specified in the letter but this refers to the start of the legal process and is not an implementation date.  The Parish Council has been assured that resident feedback will be used to inform the decision as to whether the experimental closure goes ahead or not.

The Parish Council apologises for any distress caused by the letter and strongly encourages residents to contact Cheshire East with their views.

We would be very grateful if residents could convey the contents of this notice to residents in the Hollinwood Road area who may not have access to the internet.

Disley Library – update

Disley Parish Councillors attended the Cheshire East Council Cabinet meeting in Sandbach on 6th February 2018.  Cllr. David Kidd informed Cheshire East how important Disley Library is to the village and how important it is that the Library stays open. Councillors came away from the meeting cautiously optimistic as the revised budget proposals were approved and will now go forward for full Cheshire East Council approval on 22nd February 2018.

Proposed closure of Disley Library – Latest News

Following feedback from Disley residents and many local organisations including the Parish Council, Cheshire East Council have revised their recommendations for the future of Disley Library.  A statement to be presented to Cheshire East Cabinet states:
“The Council acknowledges that the consultation has received a large number of objections to the proposal to close these libraries, particularly from residents of Disley.  The Council has decided to keep all of the libraries open.  In Alderley Edge and Disley, the libraries will achieve some budget savings from revised opening hours and staffing. Usage at these libraries will continue to be monitored and the proposal to close these libraries will be reconsidered if usage declines significantly.”

Full details of the amended recommendations are available to view
HERE. It should be noted that the revised proposal is still subject to Cheshire East Council approval on 22nd February.

Resident response has been superb with over 300 signatures being sent to Cheshire East Council via the Save Disley Library on-line and paper petitions.
The Parish Council secured a visit from the relevant Cheshire East Portfolio Holder to explain the vital role of the library to our community.  Parish Councillors will continue to represent the views of the village at the Cheshire East Cabinet meeting on 6th February.

The Parish Council’s official statement and objection to the original closure proposals is now available to view
